Steve and I like trying out new and different birding locations, especially if they are birding hot spots. We also wanted to get some shore/ocean birds to add to our Life List, so on February 1, 2013 we headed to the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve. While I am glad we tried it out, we won't be going back to this particular location. Yes, it was on the ocean...but you could not get to the shoreline. It was off a busy street, there were a lot of joggers, a lot of families with small children, it was not a large Reserve, and we did not stay long. While there, we were able to get a couple of good birds even with these distractions.
